How do you handle manipulators?
This was how I responded to this interesting topic I found in a Web Answer forum:From a clinical perspective on dealing with manipulation; every interaction we have with our surroundings and other people is a form of manipulation. We talk with others to fulfill needs, we interact with objects to fulfill needs. This is purely a interaction to meet a need. Usually with limits as to not cause harm.
There is a negative form of manipulation when someone aims to meet their needs "despite" what happens to others. Doing something because we can, or there are extras, or we aim to distract.
For example, a person that likes to cause drama for attention. It upsets others and only serves as a form of entertainment.
The main thing to remember is to set clear boundaries. If someone talks to you in a way that makes you feel bad or uncomfortable you have every right to say. "I don't feel comfortable answering that question". Its also acceptable to say, I need a break from this situation and walk away.

A very interesting topic I found in a forum on Web Answers. This was my comment:
Verbal abuse is the most common type of abusive actions. It is also the most detrimental due to the frequency of occurrence. It is very important to watch for signs of this early on and then decide if the relationship can improve. It rarely improves without professional help.
In the case of this woman, she should find some books to help her at Amazon.com "The Secret of Overcoming Verbal Abuse: Getting Off the Emotional Roller Coaster and Regaining Control of Your Life". is a great one. Get in a support group, and make a new life with only positive people. Help those that are also struggling.
The reason a person can commit verbal abuse is a number of reasons. No coping skills, lack of respect, inability to communicate, no self-esteem, conditioning through upbringing, and complete disregard. In the end we allow people to treat us how we want or we can walk away.....those are the only true choices.

It was interesting to think about this topic I found in one of the Web Answers forums. I replied with this comment:I think part of maturing is understanding timing in relationships, interactions, and life overall. I always thought asking was tacky, personally.
The better approach is to attempt some more gentle moves like hugging, hand holding, light touching of the arm or hand. This will show her you are interested and she will then interact, hopefully the same. That is what I mean by timing. Its a gradual pace. Most woman love the romance of the perfect moment. If you do this correctly you may end up with a second date.

In a discussion on Web Answers I found this topic. It was interesting to think about. Here was my reply:
I have read the answers and thought about alternate views on your question. My first thought is healthy but after further thinking what if I am 100 years old. I will not be healthy for that much longer. In that train of thought I could buy myself more time with unlimited funds. Expensive surgeries or transplants could prolong my life beyond just my normal health at 100. Quality of life would be the only real question.
That is just another view point :)

Joplin Missouri Tornado.....What's Next?
The death toll continues to rise for the community of Joplin Missouri. The town of of 50k people preparing for the next step in the process of death of a loved one. The burial or cremation.
The first funeral is that of Adam Darnaby, an Electrician, 27 years of age. The funerals are almost a week after the tragedy. Many ask how can it take that long? Resources are taxed and offline, simply put. The sheer amount of volume of the tragedy, coupled with the city infrastructure limited and supressed; business cannot just move on.One of the local funeral Directors, Tom Keckley is just overwhelmed by the friends and faces he knows and love, all being buried. Of the 140+ deaths only 48 of the families have been notified. The main reason is tramua poses challenged to identification. People are scared and a week afterwards the missing are presumed dead, over 100 people are still missing. This can lead to mistakes if the medical staff move too quickly.
There are so many stories that have touched our hearts. Sixteen month old Skyular Logdson, he was pulled from his mothers arms as they were broken from the debris. She was knocked unconcious. She is in fair condition in the hospital presently.
Will Norton, is the college graduate on his drive home with his father. He was sucked from his sunroof. His father ripped his muscles holding on to him. He could not over power the 200 mile per hour winds.
Coping with Death of this magnitude is incomprehensible. Normally people would turn to their friends or family for support. These people are also grieving on this level and it becomes more difficult to lend an ear. The amazing thing that does occur in events such as these, is our sense of giving. The needs of others top our needs for ourselves and we give and give to soothe the process of grief.
Finding a cause to move forward is exactly what the people of Joplin need. The tenderness of their neighbors and fellow Americans will give them strength to draw from. It is a long road but Joplin is strong and they will conquer with compassion and strength.
The Department of Public Safety will release a daily update of those individuals confirmed as deceased as a result of the tornado, following notification of next-of-kin. The updates will be available on the department Web site, www.dps.mo.gov.
